BAGHDAD CAFÉ   2005

Multimedia installation Joyce Yahouda Gallery, Montreal

Baghdad Cafe is a project about communication and culture. It is a social environment, a meeting place,a place to exchange and share information. The objects in the space are a reference to mesopotamian artifacts that have been destroyed or stolen as the U.S. occupation of Iraq continues.Blogs by Iraqi bloggers are available online and in print. events are scheduled focusing on the socio-economic role that culture plays in a highly networked society. The ongoing looting of ancient sites represents a loss of cultural fabric, a loss of citizenship, a loss of cultural heritage that belongs to the world at large.

What does it mean to be a citizen of the world in 2005 A.D.
