INTERFERENCE  2001

Slideshow documenting the behavior of 81 mobile phone users outdoors in New York City as they aim for a clear connection amidst the urban buzz.

The study shows new body positions (elbow in the air, finger in ear, hand over ear, body tilted upward) and talking tactics (walking down the middle of the street, hugging the architecture or using existing phone booths) to escape traffic noise. The audio track is composed of rings and sound bites from these conversations interrupted by urban street noise, sirens, etc.
